Birds Building Block Approach Saves Time
and MoneyBird Precision has developed a building block approach
to orifice and filter design that they call Simply Precise. This
approach provides an infinite number of fitting, orifice, and filter
design combinations, all within one housing. Simply Precise has
become immensely popular because it allows the design engineer to
economically create custom fittings using standard off-the-shelf
parts. The Simply Precise approach helps eliminate redundant fittings,
filters, and orifices, allowing consolidation of up to 3 fittings
into a single precise fitting which includes the 3 components.
How does it work? Bird Precision takes the orifice,
filter, and fitting you specify, and creates a single component.
For example, if a current design called for a 1/8 barb in-line orifice
up stream from a 1/8 in-line filter, which in turn is up stream
from a 1/8 barbed T fitting, the new design would call for one T
fitting with orifice and filter complete.
Bird's standard parts can be combined to create
a vast array of plastic fittings, brass fittings, quick connects,
10-32 to 1/8 and 1/16 barb fittings, T's, Y's, and internal tube
orifice fittings for both 1/8 and 1/16 design. For those applications
requiring higher pressure and chemical resistance, an array of 1/4"
and 1/8" stainless steel tube fittings are available, including
port type connectors, gland, male-to-male unions, etc. Color coding
is available for certain designs.
Bird's building block approach has also been applied
to direct orifice installation into manifold design. Inserts are
available in both stainless and brass, in sizes .078, .093, .118,
.125, .156, and .250 diameters. Threaded orifice building blocks
are also available in sizes 10-32, 6-32, 5/16-24, 1/8 NPT, 1/4 NPT,
and 1/16 NPT pipe plugs. These, like the manifold inserts, can be
threaded directly into valve and manifold designs and can come with
or without filtration.
Wire lapped and extremely precise sapphire or
ruby orifices are available in sizes ranging from .0004 to .081
I.D. Stainless steel wire mesh filters are available in an assortment
of micron ratings from 43 microns. Test kits for in-line and quick
connects are also available to help facilitate the test engineer's
new designs, helping you to establish flow quickly before ordering
production quantities. For more information, contact Bird Precision.
